In the house of a hanged man

Published by Nicole under Uncategorized

they don’t talk about rope.

So let’s not talk about cancer.

I thought I was ready for this (can you ever really be ready though?) but I wasn’t expecting the severity it looks like we’re dealing with.

Since when do men with blocked carotid arteries and emphysema die of bladder cancer?

At 51.

It’s spring!

Published by Nicole under Uncategorized

But you know there’s another snow up Michigan’s sleeve. Maybe an ice storm. But spring is nice whenever it’s here. A young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love… who said that? These days, if it’s not Shakespeare or Vladimir Putin, I don’t know who said it.

I want to ride horses again. I want to cut my hair again. I want to drive around with the moonroof open and my speakers blaring Boston. Man, I want to drive TO Boston.

Well, after tonight, Lord Stanley’s cup is probably not coming to Boston. *Sigh.* It is a kind of delirium to think that the Pats can win the Superbowl, the Bs can win the Cup and the BoSox can win the World Series, all in the same year. But it is MY kind of delirium.

Alina, like any good Russian woman, loves to talk hockey–to tell the truth, I hadn’t been following the regular season much the last couple years, until she wanted to talk hockey every day in class last fall (Incidentally, I think my spring fever started last fall). Anyway, Alina always asks why I like the Bruins, is it because I’m from Boston? She never seems to remember that I’m not. Confession: I’ve never actually been to Boston. It is rather insane that I have such an affinity for the town.

Anywho. It’s just spring fever. Or, “this is very midsummer madness” as Shakespeare said. Or,

“O, how this spring of love resembleth
The uncertain glory of an April day,
Which now shows all the glory of the sun,
And by and by a cloud takes all away!”

Ah, clouds. Clouds suck.
